Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.
So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she’s beginning to enjoy his company.
She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.
Right…. So… I gave Kasie West a go!
Heh, it rhymed! Looky me, going all gangsta! I don’t really know what I was expecting, or if I was expecting anything at all from this book. I follow bloggers who are huge fans of Kasie West and I’m beginning to think I’m just dead inside or something… Yeah, man, the story was cute and the premise of rich boy vs poor girl is a lovely gesture towards breaking the snobbish, dotted line in between social classes. Anyway, I enjoyed the read, I’ll be honest. I read it in one sitting and had quite a few chuckles along the way…
I really liked Caymen’s sarcasm/dry humor. It was well done and it didn’t come across arrogant or obnoxious. Well placed snarky comments for the win!
I really liked that a doll shop was involved. Who comes up with this stuff? Obviously, Kasie West, but it was different and cool. And the drift shop $5 jeans versus Xander’s $500 shirts… it worked, for the contrast effect. It did work.
I really liked the idea of ‘career days’ even though there was only, what?… 2? 3? instances of them? I think a lot of cool stuff could have happened if there were more career days. Because…Hello! A career day in a graveyard is just fantastic. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like death nor the sadness that comes with it, but that was a brilliant idea! What ruined it for me was the fact a little blister was turned into a ‘end of the world’ scenario of antiseptic and bandages. I rolled my eyes, thinking, give me a break. Try chopping wood or rake leaves all day without gloves- see who wins the moaning contest then. It was such a tiny thing but I despise when that tiny thing, any thing, that occurs during hard work is turned into a thing in the first place! Pffft! It shouldn’t be a thing.. a blister shouldn’t get a mention. It just shouldn’t… No!
Xander… Ah, you know, he was a good rich guy. Rebel against his father just for the sake of being a rebel. However, I guess that’s the reality of young adults- trying to find their own way, not wanting others to tell them what to do… I get that. He wasn’t arrogant, nor an asshat… all in all a likeable guy.
Overall– I shall star this book with a 3. I liked it, it made me laugh in places but it didn’t made me go all- aawwwwe, how cute! As I said- I must be dead inside! Also- what’s up with the cover? Shouldn’t the guy wear like super expensive shoes next to the ratty pair of Converse? Something got mixed up on that there, so it did!
Will I try another West book? I might! I probably will.. Yeah, I will… So, tell me, what’s your favorite Kasie West book with potential to turn this cold fish into a sighing fairy princess?
I haven’t read this book but I did read P.S. I like you and I thought it was adorable! It’s one of those books you read in a reading slump. It’s adorable, you read it in one sitting and you are inspired about reading again. At least that’s how it worked for me 😉 I think all of her books are light, cute reads so if that’s what you are looking for I definitely recommend PS I like you!

Cool… I’ve seen P.S I like you going around the Goodreads/blog circles as of late indeed… will add this title into the ‘to be considered’ pile 🙂
Thanks for stopping by 🙂

I’ve read only the Fill-In Boyfriend and I thought it was horrible, I think I gave it one star. 😀 So, if you really are giving a go to something else from her, do not go with that one. 😀

The first paragraph of the Fill-In Boyfriend was at the end of The Distance Between Us… I’ll need to check your review for this one… that first paragraph did not impress me though… mainly because the female character managed to annoy me massively.. while I love the ‘from a horrible person to a good person’ stories… I could not put up with her I think 😀

Hahaha, your review reminded me of my feeling after finishing Me Before You with dry eyes! I kept thinking something was wrong with me. I enjoyed it, but it did not make me go all “youhouuuuu favorite book, awesome stuff, cry your heart out”. I don’t read a lot of the genre, so despite the brilliant reviews I read, I am still on the fence about Kasie West books. I think I need to be in the right mood to enjoy them. I’ll give it a try during spring! Great review!

Ah, Me before You is something I have yet to read but I don’t think I will…
I’ll have a go at another West book to base my overall judgement 😁

I think the hype killed the story for me 🙂 I hope you enjoy your next West !

I really really liked PS I like you but I think it’ll be a bit of the same atmosphere so I’m not sure if I should recommend it to you. I definitely want to read this one though. You didn’t say it was bad or anything so I’m pretty sure it’s my ‘thing’.

Hmm… Interesting… I’ll check out her other stuff and probably go by the blurb…
Yeah, this one wasn’t bad really 😀 it was fun with a bit of drama and secrets and characters were strong and not wishy-washy. Interested to see what you’ll think of it 😊

This is least favorite of Kasie West’s books. I’m wondering if you’d like P.S. I Like you as much as I did. There’s music in it and a mystery about who her admirer is, so I thought it was cool that they bonded over music. I never cry when I read these kinds of books. You’re definitely not dead inside. I’ll go aww that’s cute or something like that but I never cry. You’re totally normal, Liz! 🙂

Hahaha, thanks 😀 I better try P.S I like you then, music is good! 😀

Anything that combines music and cuteness is okay in my book. You might like a book series called White Trash Beautiful. I loved it. They write songs in some of the books and it’s a really edgy story that was like Cinderella meets Tommy Lee.

I like this one but not as much as I like her other books. Caymen’s sarcasm is a hit tho.
Great review. 🙂

I read Kanye West at first, so your rapping skills are ON DA DOT homie! XD
I was waiting for your thoughts on this one with glee to be honest (she says one day after you posted this: I’m SO behind still!), and your review certainly delivered :D. Dead inside *chuckles*. I’m worried it might be the same for me when I’ll read P.S.-I Like You (which everyone is clearly raving about in the comments up here again as well 🙂 ). The whole: OMG, MY MOM SAYS I CAN’T DATE HIM, this is the end of the world!- scenario also wouldn’t sit well with me. First world problems yo, deal with it :D. Kasie West is on my bookshelf thanks to Owlcrate and I’m reaaaaaaally curious to see what I think of the book. Especially because we’re dead inside-buddies…except when it comes to half-naked men wearing a kilt of course :’). Great review Liis! I also like how you highlighted in the same colour as your background ❤
Oh yeah, and about that cover: you're right. In fact, it looks like she‘s the rich gal….

😀 Thanks homie!
Yeah, the omg my mom says I can’t date him is slightly riding the issue to keep a theme going in the book… but I guess quite current with teenagers… I always dated who I wanted and there was one guy my parents didn’t approve of and he wasn’t the worst in the line of guys 😀 haha… then again, if your 15y/o daughter is dating a 17 y/o who’s missing from school because he’s behind bars.. yeah, I wouldn’t have approved either 😀
Yep, I’m gonna have a go at PS I like you book as well… who knows? we might love it! 🙂 but that might also mean hell has frozen over! 😀 haha, just kidding…
Thanks.. yeah… the red highlights are like the most creative I’ve ever been 😀 I just couldn’t be arsed to create all the lovely graphs everyone is creating, I’m like- yeah, no! 😀 Besides, with my creativity being zero, the graphics would look like shit… but I love how you always create them graphics in tune with the book so you’re awesome!
half naked kilt wearing scot… yeah… there’s a nice mental image to get me through the day!
Hope you’re feeling better girlie! ❤

*does a Westside hand flipping something-something* 😀
Yeah, same here. My dad hated all of them, but at least he never forbade me to go out with them! Just no fooling around in his house: a.k.a. they weren’t allowed to come up in my bedroom. Fair nuf eh? 😀 But ehm, yeah, jail birds would’ve been a whole different scenario as well!
Hahaha, I dunno man, hell might just freeze over indeed if that’s the case XD. But who knows!
LOL, no waaaaaaay! Just look at this blog: it looks fabulous! (and organised, I love organised). Creating all those graphics takes up half of the time when writing a review (for me, at least), so you’re smart not to, actually :D. It’s all about the text anyways (though I’m very glad to hear someone has noticed my little graphics match up with the theme ❤ <3)
You're welcome again! 😉
I'm getting there *blows nose* ;).

Of course I noticed… 🙂 You’ve good eye for graphics! and the new theme is fabulous- especially the swanky news ticker… like whaaaat?! That’s top stuff right there!

Haha! ❤ Thank you 😀 I didn't know whether to add the news ticker or not but then said to myself, the hell with it, I'm going full on pro! XD

Yeah, the ticker is mighty! Good decision!

Did you read The Fault In Our Stars? I was annoyed and dry-eyed all the way through.

Nope, never read it, never felt like reading it either…. I tend to approach hypes with a 10foot pole 😂 and scope out by reviewers I trust whether a hype book is worth a go or not… I don’t feel like I’m missing out when not reading the fault, or the gone girl, or the girl on the train, etc etc 😁
