33287119How far would you go to find THE ONE?

One simple mouth swab is all it takes.
One tiny DNA test to find your perfect partner – the one you’re genetically made for.

A decade after scientists discover everyone has a gene they share with just one person, millions have taken the test, desperate to find true love.

Now, five more people take the test. But even soul mates have secrets. And some are more shocking – and deadlier – than others…

A psychological thriller with a difference, this is a truly unique novel which is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.

I love coming across books on the web that make me interested. I don’t buy every book that pulls my eye. In fact, I am quite critical of anything new and reading the blurb often either makes or breaks the deal for me. Without shame I’ll say that The One was one of those books that was neither here nor there. I liked the blurb, but it didn’t convince me to get and read it immediately. However, something must have been intriguing enough because the book stayed in my head for a few days and remembering that I had promised myself to read more thrillers this year I decided to take a chance. The One was sitting on my Kindle. I was happy to leave it there until the ‘right day’ came… but then, Inge reviewed the book and her thoughts on the book got me excited. [You can find Inge’s review for The One here]. A couple of days later I set aside a fantasy title I was currently half way through and got stuck in The One.

Guys…. I loved it! This book delivers ‘edge of the seat‘ in spades! The rapidfire chapters dealt out stfu moments every single time. And The One has 103 chapters.

Yeah!

Imagine being knocked sideways for 103 chapters, one after another. Whooaaaaa! There wasn’t a single faltering moment in progression of the story as I read this book- it was 100% pace, 100% engagement and 100% “holy shit!”

I admit, as I ever dabble in thrillers once-twice-three times a year max, it might just be that the freshness the genre delivered to my reading variety is just that: fresh! However, I can’t fault the quality of the twists, the solidity of plot(s)/characters and their motivations and the freaking fireworks-worthy revelations… Ah, I wish I could tell you more… I feel like gushing about my favorite parts about the book, but the Spoiler Police will make me walk the Green Line if I spill any beans. The blurb is all you’ll need… Think dating, DNA, people scrambling to find the love of their life… oh, all sorts is going to hit the fan!

The writing is really neat and flowy (even though not completely perfect due to some typos/errors with words, of which there were definitely less than 6!) and as my pessimistic side started to expect some fresh hell to happen as the chapter-counter was going up, somehow Marrs still managed to make me believe that things were going to be A-OK. In a way I feel Marrs managed to play with my mind: instil a sense of constant foreboding through non-stop twists, while at the same time offering little moments of  respite…really small, short moments of respite.. because…  BOOM! … another unexpected curveball!  And that? That is what I love about reading the most.

A bit about the characters, because honestly, the less you know about the story the better your reading enjoyment will be. The cast is rather wide and colorful. We have the male and female POVs, we have the terminally ill, the psychos, the business people, the regular people. OK.. there’s 5 main POVs, I didn’t mean to scare you with all the plurals, but The most intriguing part? Some Most of the craziness you just cannot see coming. (And if you can? Maybe you should write a book too because obvs you have the material for it in your head) There are beautiful moments in The One, there are sad moments and downright horrible moments… all in all- a beautiful fictional mirror image of life itself! 5 stars- The One deserves all the hype!

Thriller/mystery/crime/suspense bookjunkies should definitely read this! I would also recommend everyone else to pick this book up. It will excite, horrify and entertain you.
