Hello wonderful people. Today for something a bit different to books. It’s all for a bit of fun and because I love me some good old rock ‘n roll as well as metal, you can’t really blame me for wanting to put my fantasies to ‘paper’.
I was tagged for this by the wonderful La La in the Library. Go check out her blog- there’s always recs for books, giveaways and interesting life updates from La La and you’ll be in good company, that is for sure!
On to the tag! *ba dum tsss!*
What is the name of your band, or if you are a solo artist, your stage name (example: Lady Ga Ga, Snoop Dog, Puddles the Clown, etc…)?
My band name would probably be F*ck the System! because there’s nothing better than a bit of rebellion through art.
What genre or style of music are you known for?
Definitely metal. And because metal is such a wide term, I will elaborate and specify that F*ck the System! would be in the sub-genre of alternative/funk/progressive… Think the likes of System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine.
What instrument do you play or are you the lead singer?
I would definitely want to be the drummer and not only that but I’d want to be a singing drummer. That is the dream! Not just a back-singing drummer, but proper sing full vocals for 1-2 songs in set while playing drums.
If you could be the opening act for any band currently touring who would it be?
Nickelback! Hahahaha, totally kidding.
Oh that’s a tough one! I know System of a Down are out and about this year so basically they count! Also, wouldn’t mind opening for DevilDriver, Rammstein (because they pull a crowd and their show is AMAZING!) and Tool.
Who would you name as your musical inspiration? This person can be currently breathing, or not.
I feel like I should name a drummer here, but I won’t. This will probably come as a surprise but my musical inspiration in many ways is Ville Valo of HIM. First of all, the lyrics kick ass… like so much they kick ass. Second- Ville’s vocal range is TO.DIE.FOR! And I have been a fan for manymanymany years and never disliked any of their albums or songs. HIM has been a catalyst for many an interesting thought in my head and has also acted as muse. And, darn it! So many memories the songs make me want to crawl out of my skin!
Beyond Redemption – HIMI see your scars
I know where they’re from
So sensually carved and bleeding
Until you’re dead and gone
I’ve seen it all before
Beauty and splendor torn
It’s when heaven turns to black
And hell to white
Right so wrong and wrong so rightFeel it turning your heart into stone
Feel it piercing your courageous soul
You’re beyond now- redemption
And no one’s going to catch you when you fallI see you crawl
You can barely walk
And arms wide open
You keep on begging for more
I’ve been there before
Knocking on the same door
It’s when hate turns to love
And love to hate
Faith to doubt and doubt to faith
What special item do you ask for in your dressing room on a tour contract rider?
Ha, this is a cool question. It’s difficult in a way because unless you’re in such a situation you don’t know what you’ll miss. OK, going about it logically, I will want top quality coffee and some ice to use after a set of headbanging! You know what? A masseuse wouldn’t be too bad… muscles gonna cramp, need some rubs!

What item from home do you pack in your suitcase to take on tour?
Pictures! All and as many pictures as I can of my family… old ones, new ones, ancient ones… I need to have a reminder of where I come from and my family is just such a rock and anchor in my life I am no one without them!
What does your stage attire look like?
Not really an attire, but black cargos, converse (to kick em off easy to jam barefeet) and a tank top. NO bloody sparkly stuff anywhere! #removeglitterfromthisplanet
What backstage nickname have the roadies given you based on your personality?
Eh… I don’t know… Blackie?
That’s my nickname from the past… Blackie was a funny one because while I was called Blackie, my then roommate was called Pinkie.. I was always dressed in black, she always in pink.. one night we were walking side by side (walking, staggering, stumbling), black and pink, and there it was for the next 3 years!
Can’t think of anything else… it’s hard to analyze myself to think what would be suitable…
Ha, Stick would be cool.. you know, drummer, drumstick… and also I look like a stick as well… so yeah, sounds fitting!
Every successful rockstar has a special charity. What’s yours?
I’d want to have a few charities and they’d all be involving animals. Hedgehogs, elephants, big cats, rhinos, etc etc etc.
What is the title of your memoir going to be?
‘My drunken trip to the Dark Side!’
I tag the below bloggers as I know they have similar taste in music and everyone else who wants to do the tag- have at it! raaar!ย
have fun!ย
Hahahahaha F*ck the System. I truly believe you should start this band! Only band I’ve not listened to before is DevilDriver. I’ll have to go search Youtube. This was fun to read! Thank you for the laugh!

My pleasure to have been able to entertain! ๐๐๐
Oh? So you like a bit of the good music as well? That’s good to know… if you do go in search of DevilDriver check out their older stuff. Their song End of the Line is my absolute favorite… I hope it’s not too heavy for you ๐

Yes. I’m pretty diverse when it comes to music and a lot of people are usually surprised by my tastes. The only genre I will never listen to willingly is country. Thanks! I will check out that song! ๐

Cheers Drew… yeah… Nickelback were in my head cause there’s a tur war or something going on between them and Stone Sour… pfft, as if they have any chance of ‘winning’ anything against Stone Sour…
Great to see you did the tag! ๐

Ha, yeah I’d read about that, Chad was dissing Corey and Stonesour, sigh! I know lots of people/metal fans hate on Corey but if Chad thought that he was more popular, hell no as everyone hates on Nickelback!๐๐

Mm… I don’t know why people hate on Corey.. maybe because he’s too outspoken… Have you hear Stone Sour new album? I think it’s not that great… sigh…

Yeah, I unfortunately agree with you, I’m not sure if it was all the hype but it’s underwhelming.

Indeed… very kind of popish or something… compared to songs like 30/30-150 or Socio… new album is nowhere near…

Thanks for the tag aswell! I am soooo behind with these but I definitely will do it, this is too cool a tag to miss!

๐ hahaha.. fabulous… good to know there’s a market out there for my ‘future band’ ๐ ah, one can dream and that’s one mighty dream..
Yeah, love drums, been too busy lately to really go and jam in the garage but I do love just sitting there, no music, just experimenting with plenty of bass ๐
Woop, yes, I know the tags come in fast sometimes, but I do look forward to reading your answer when you do get around to this one ๐

I love Gary! Ha ha. I love Fuck the System, too! Bwhahah.
There used to be a regional band around here in the 80s called Alec Starr, and the drummer was the lead singer. His kit was on a riser in the middle FRONT of the stage, so I say shoot for the moon and sing every song. ๐
Michelle from In Libris Veritas is a big HIM fan, too. Which reminds me that I was going to put some songs on my iPod. Nickleback, hahahaha. I was looking for a CD to play in my sister’s van and one of my nephews had a Nickleback CD in the glove compartment, so I opened the window and threw it out. XD
Quality coffee… yes. We could be in the same band with our all black attire. I also love System Of a Down. I love your answers, especially the animal charities. I am going to link you on my post right away. Thanks for doing the tag!

hahahaha, threw out the Nickelback CD? Well done! ๐ Gotta teach the young ones what is good and what is not ๐

So fun! I say System a few years back and it was epic madness!!! Oh if only I still could do concerts. Gone are those days. Digging F*ck The System though haha and can totally see you rocking the drums. I wanted to play and was told no because they are too loud ๐ฆ If my kids ever decide to pick up drumsticks, more power to them!

Ah, concert days may be gone.. they are for me, too… I’m just too bloody antisocial IRL now to be dealing with crowds of people… but we have the memories and you saw System… that is just wonderful! I am so jealous! ๐
Shame you couldn’t play… but totally great that you’d support your wee ones to pursue the dream if they so wanted to ๐ Cool moms be cool ๐

Oh, I LOVE System of a Down!! Did you see Serj singing ‘The Rains of Castamere’ from Game of Thrones lately? Goosebumps…
Ville Valo has an amazing voice!! And yay for mentioning Rammstein!

I have to check out Serj singing now! Like now! ๐ He’s just great!
And, Rammstein was in my head because they were in Estonia a few weeks back and gave such a show it was unreal! I didn’t attend but there was plenty of vids and when vids managed to make me go, holy shit, I can only imagine what it was like to actually be there! ๐ Great band, them!

Oh my God! HIM is one of my all time favourite bands! My first tattoo was a heartagram and I was absolutely gutted when I heard they were disbanding ๐ฆ I always think of Ville’s voice as being like melted chocolate. It’s so smooth and rich โค
The title of your memoir is EPIC, by the way! It's a title that raises so many questions ๐
Awesome answers!

Thanks… as I mentioned to someone else above (below?) in the comments, I felt it was a great title because drunk people to dumb stuff and dumb stuff is usually the most entertaining… alas, I would have many a story to tell.. ๐ ๐
Thank you… wanna have a go at the tag? Well, if you’re feeling it, you’re tagged! ๐

I know, right!? The similarities just keep adding up! ๐ What’s your fave album? Have you listened to any of Ville’s solo stuff?
Ooo if we ever find ourselves in the same town, we’re definitely gonna have to go for a drinking sesh and share some drunken tales ๐ What’s your most memorable? I once got so drunk, I found myself sat outside a synagogue, holding a homeless man in my arms and weeping because I felt so bad for him. I think he was a little confused!
I will have a go ๐ Pretty busy with work this week but it shall be on my weekend to do list ๐ Thank you! โค

Gosh yes… they do keep adding up… it’s unreal really! ๐ but very cool! ๐
Ah.. fav HIM album? I can’t say I have a favorite really… I mean, they’re all just so good…hmm… nope, can’t pick one! ๐ You?
Oh my gosh, your stories are just top class… you have a big heart don’t you?! Just a gigantic big heart feeling all the feels… wonderful person but you also must carry the world’s pain with you at times…
my drunken stories aren’t half as heartfelt… more like… cheeky! ๐ I guess one of the craziest was a night where I truly had had a bit too much, ended up trekking into the marsh/bog with a friend… about 3km walk through soggy ground.. went swimming in the bog lake fully clothed and then ended up walking home through the village looking like a bum… literally… I had taken off my jeans to dry them so they were swinging from my hand, my sneakers were hanging around my neck tied by laces, I was wearing socks still though which were half off… and someone had given their button down short to put around my hips… all I remember from that 5am walk was that all the old ladies were going to look out their windows, see me and I’d be the talk of the town, again! ๐ and that time it would have actually been the truth… ๐

Oh god, I’m the same! I like them all for different reasons! But I think if I had to be stranded on a desert island with only one…I’d maybe go for Venus Doom! I entered the HIM fandom when they released Dark Light, but I think all their music is fantastic ๐
That is amazing! I bet you must have looked a right sight ๐ I would have loved to have been able to listen in on passers by’s thoughts when they saw you. I imagine they had a lot of questions ๐ It sounds like a scene from one of those buddy road trip movies! It’s amazing the feats the human body can endure when under the influence of alcohol. Swimming, a 3km trek…that’s pretty impressive! ๐ Especially without shoes!

Okay, this tag is just too awesome and I need to remember it so I can do it myself some day!
I seriously saw SOAD a couple of weeks ago. Went to a festival for one day just because THEY would be there and you seriously can’t go about your life without having seen them live at least once. At. The. Least. As soon as they ever get near Belgium again, I’ll be on the road again, haha!
Love this post!

Yes, defo fit the tag in some time ๐ It was rather entertaining to come up with answers, but a word of warning.. i you go listening to songs for inspiration… set aside a few hours… I think it took me a whole day to answer the questions cos I got stuck on memory lane wth some tunes ๐
Oh man, really? You saw SOAD? That is truly wonderful… Their tunes have just been such a big part of my life… and listening to some stuff now, they’re like a time machine you know? I am so happy that you got to see them live… I hope, maybe one day I will, too ๐
Thank you for stopping by! ๐

I can totally see you owning that band name and your personal one Blackie ! Very entertaining post.. I don’t think they could have given this tag to anyone more appropriate. You lost me with the metal names though… I’m probably the only one here who was ‘happy’ to recognize Nickelback :-). One final remark: coffee yay, I’d only go for a masseur however, if you want to be really relaxed ๐

Hehehe, yeah… you know, some Nickelback songs are actually good.. I don’t know why people are hating on them so much.. they did piss me off trying to drag Stone Sour through ‘mud’ with stupid statements but the music’s grand enough…
Hahaha… yeah, down a strong shot of coffee and then try to stay still on the table while getting rubbed? That would be tough :d

It’s always awesome to find another HIM fan! I totally agree with you on Ville’s songwriting, he has put on some seriously amazing lyrics over the years. There are songs that just hit the ear so perfectly it’s like I can get the volume loud enough, lol.
I’m always a fan of drummers who sing a few songs. It blew my mind as a kid when I learned that Roger Taylor. the drummer for Queen, was behind a lot of the amazing backup vocals and sang a few songs as well.

Oh, I never knew that about Roger Taylor… that’s cool!
I used to go see a local band who were doing covers and the drummer used to sing 2-3 songs in the set.. just a great sight! I’m no pro drummer (yet! haha) and I need a bit of concentration to play well enough so I can’t imagine being able to sing and play at the same time… practice I guess ๐
