I’m slightly in disbelief how little reading I am getting done this year. It doesn’t help that the days just pass by in a freaking whiff full of manic rush either chasing the kid or getting work done… BUt, I much rather the busyness than idle time. Idle time makes me nervous. But idle time would be mega good for reading…
Yet again, I am going to make an attempt at posting more often. People may not check this blog anymore, definitely not as many as used to, but I have a few great bookish friends who always check in on my reading so that’s one reason to pop up some updates.
At the moment.. I am reading, or I am attempting to read Shcwab’s Vengeful

The start, the handful of pages I have managed to read, have been good. Have you read it?

In the near future, I also want to post two things: 1. a Friday Five post about the five non-fiction posts that I came across on La La’s blog HERE and 2. a post about my amazing book loot that has been gathering for some time from this amazing second hand book shop in Estonia.

Know what’s really annoying me at the moment? There’s this situation on my Kindle where I have started to read 2 books and they’re both at like 3% and 4% and whilst I am really not feeling them at the moment, I don’t want to give up on them either. So, I don’t want to mark them as unread because I have read a bit of them, and I don’t want to remove them library either but I absolutely get the hives when I see these 2 books just lingering there at sad percent in my ebook library. Things have always, to this point, been in order. None of these weirdly loitering titles…

In other news, Estonia is going to get another heatwave – probably the last this summer and then it’s time for colorful forest views, bonfire smoke smell and raking leaves and smell of apples and fresh, fresh misty mornings. I noticed today that the swallows that were nesting in the eaves (eaves?) have suddenly disappeared. They were busy-busy, oh, about a week ago? maybe 2 weeks even? I guess that was the sign of them prepping to leave for the winter. Apart from the lovely autumn feels and excitement over first fresh snow, roll on new year… I’m ready for a new year now.

Oh man! You know what else is keeping me from reading, the little time I do have for myself? Bloody TV! I discovered Yellowstone TV series. I have been watching as much as I can and I yearn to experience the cowboy life. But not just that, the Native American culture is really something, too! And them views of nature in that show. Lordy lord… That show has me laughing and crying a million times during one episode. And… I never knew I could miss or pine after a place I have never been to. Weird. Do you have a place like this? A place you’ve seen on TV and you just feel how you really want and wish and should be there?

To finish off… I set my Goodreads challenge to 50 this year. Guess who is absolutely not going to make it? Since about 2013, I am NOT going to make it… hahaha…
Brilliant! Love seeing your updates Liz it’s nice to know you’re still around in the blogosphere. π

Why didn’t I know you were in Estonia? Part of my family comes from there – Parnu, to be precise. I’ve got to get back – such a lovely country! But don’t beat yourself up about not meeting your Goodreads goal – you can always reduce it. I change mine all the time!

No way!!! That is cool! You should defo come for a visit, plenty happening here in summer and winter π
Yeah, for a year or 2 I set the Goodreads challenge to 1, that really took the pressure off π

Actually, I’m working on a novel, and part of it is set in Parnu – a small part. I want to visit for research, maybe find records of things like boats out of Parnu to Scandinavia in 1938-39, or if there were trains out of Estonia that didn’t go to the USSR at that time. I’m hitting a dead end, and may decide to not use that in my book after all.

Sounds very cool… Maybe some maritime museums would be helpful for research… There is probably info there but where to go to find it… I’ll have a think… There’s bound to be records and someone who has written about it, etc.

I don’t like unfinished things either. I’m currently listening to an audiobook that I don’t like (I’m not going to name it because lots of people like this male author) but I don’t want to keep it hanging either and I can’t seem to just give up :-). I love the update (crazy people who long for snow and winter, you stay there, I’ll stay here ;-))!

Ah darn, not the book you don’t like but can’t seem to be able to simply set aside either. These kinds of books are the hell of readers… A limbo π
Hahaha, yeah, we have 27 degrees here today, the sun is shining and I am grumpy as fuck. I just can’t with the direct sun beating down on me but I hate sitting indoors when the weather is nice…

I was not a fan of Vicious. It pushed too many of my pet peeve buttons: continuity blips, coincidences (big and small), plot conveniences, and too many suspensions of disbelief. Therefore, I have not read Vengeful. π
I’d think twice about a Friday Five feature, I’m not doing it anymore because it only averaged betwee 40-80 views. π Thank you for the shoutout. π€
If you do a book loot post, link it to Stacking the Shelves. I received six new commenters, and three of them came back to comment on other posts. π
So that’s where you got the idea about Montana. Ha ha. My college housemate was a dance major with a ballet emphasis and now she is married to a rancher in Montana and rides horses and does cattle drives. π― It’s funny because she heads a small group of locals who attempt a Renaissance faire weekend every year. They’ve been doing it for years, but it has never caught on amongst the ranching folk. π
Fernweh, or farsickness, the opposite of homesickness, is also a suffering, but is less clear cut and rectifiable. It is a consuming longing to be somewhere you’ve never been; an aching to be in a distant and unknown land. It’s a German word. I love it. β€

Interesting… I haven’t progressed with Vengeance and I can’t remember Vicious as well… then again, I am not as observant when I read so my analysis on books is often very high level and shallow π I bet this analytica part of the brain can be trained and learned but I always felt too dumb for it to even try… haha.. sounds horrible.. but… That’s why I always like your reviews, you notice things I’d never even catch when reading a book. It’s kind of a like a form of learning for me.
This Friday Five caught my eye because of the non-fiction theme… I have some Irish themed titles that I will probably highlight… I love a good non fiction title, I do… sometimes they’re bloody hard to find, but when they’re good, they damn good!
I will take your suggestions to account though – Stacking the Shelves sounds amazing… I need to just start making those photos.. I promised the bookstore in Estonia I would show off the habit they have made me develop π
Ahhh, Montana.. That Yellowstone TV series really twisted me up. Books and shows can always make me feel like… I want what’s there. But if ever there was a dream that I was never able to put into words… that, that show.. without the politics and murders, you know… but the rancher life, the hard yet simple life of living off the land, the closeness to nature… It’s the ultimate dream.

Estonia must be lovely in autumn! Though I’m waiting for spring, I’ve had enough of the cold, rainy winter in Auckland! π

It is! Every year I think, I vaguely recall walking on the streets in autumn and there’s a smell of apples in the air… and every year I forget what it actually smells like, so every year I am surprised again at how fantastic it is π Plus, I can tell by the smell in the air if there’s snow on the way… icy/arctic air simply smells different…
Oh! You’re way down under! Not long to go now π I’d love to visit New Zealand but the length of the flights and travel are really putting me off… I can hardly contain myself for the 3 hour flight that I used to take in between Ireland and Estonia… torture π

Yep, our journey to get to Poland this year lasted 72h one way… The other way was better, half that time, but either way was simply exhausting. But now I’m happy for the coming spring and summer!βΊοΈ

It’s good to see you around! Those swallows will probably coming my way soon… I always love it when they appear come spring. I hope Vengeful is a good one for you! It’s Schwab, so of course I loved it haha. It was better than the first book for me! xx

Vengeful didn’t actually work out at all π and I loved Vicious… guess I am becoming more impatient with age, hahahaha!

My reading moods are getting more fickle in recent years… There are books that I know I would have loved a couple years ago, but somehow they just don’t work for me at the moment.
