The paranormal force with this book was strong… I never in my whole sorry life won anything, ever! Until this book. I was like- Whaaaat? π Anyway, I was super-happy to win something, and it was even better because- Book! I saw the giveaway for The Timeweaver’s Wager on ChocolatePages bookblog and I have to admit, the blurb really made me want to read this one.
Would you give your life for a second chance? Be careful what you wish for.
Glen McClay sits on a fallen log by the railroad trestle, watching for his girlfriend’s ghost. Eight years ago, Connie Salvatore was savagely murdered here. Glen has spent his life seeking redemption, haunted by the knowledge that he might have been able to save her.
The time has come to let go of his past and move on with his life. But as he prepares to do so, an old friend offers Glen the redemption he has always sought β a chance to relive that horrible night and change the past. All he has to do… is die.
So, essentially what you have is a murder, a guy who can’t let go, an old friend with a massive secret and the paranormal aspect of possibly reliving and changing the course of events the night Connie died.
I’ve been sitting on this book for a while after finishing it.. Not literally of course… but just trying to figure out how I feel about it. Was there something I really really liked and something I didn’t… It didn’t completely blow my mind away and I think I figured out why: I would have liked to have seen the culmination of the story earlier on. The part where things are really put in motion. Instead there was a rather slow build up to an explosive ending. Then again, the build up wasn’t boring to read. It was nice and flowy.
Talking about endings- it was quite satisfying. To some, it might be predictable. To others- not so much. Axel Blackwell tries, and quite well enough, to throw the reader off course as to the outcome of Glen’s decision.
I did like the idea of it all and even though I just complained about the slow build up, I am also glad it happened, because I got to know Glen’s sister. Among other likeable things for me was the writing and, when the story wasn’t all crime, doom and gloom, I liked the warm emotions I got from Glen’s relationship with his sister. I think it was my absolute favorite aspect.
I would have liked to read more about the Timeweaver as well. A lot more. I waited for that little twist to show up in the book for some while and when it did, it was case closed quite quickly. So, it was a bit disappointing. The fact that Glen accepted everything at face value, without freaking out, or going “Hang on, am I dreaming this?” was a bit anticlimactic. Then again, maybe his guilt had worn him down so much that he just moved through life like a zombie.
So, what would you do if you were given a second chance to change the events of a single night that turned your living life into living torturous hell of never-ending guilt? How would you receive the fact that someone you thought you knew was not the person you always thought they were? And most of all, would you believe a weird Egyptian guy and the purpose of the knife?
My Overall rating: 3 *** (I liked it)

Now that’s a good blurb alright! Too bad the book itself didn’t live up to it completely for you, but, still sounds good to me. Two thumbs up! π Owyeah, and I’d believe a weird Egyptian guy with a knife if he was offering me kebab with it. Then again, I’m always a bit suspicious of the garlic sauce…

Yes, the blurb is mighty! And TBH a lot of people enjoyed the book to high satisfaction rates… so worth checking it out in the future. To me… I don’t want to say it was average, because it was more than average, but it was simply a comfy read. And I do too much comfy with everything else so my books need to be whacked! π
is it nice? And why suspicious with garlic? You a Walker of the Night? And I don’t mean , you know… I mean a vampire π
Hahahaha @ kebab… strange- I’ve never had a kebab…

Yeah, I want comfy alright. The last book I read was about child rape…unicorns and rainbows now people!@!! But whacked you say huh? π I’m definitely keeping an eye on what you’re reading! (as if I wasn’t doing that already π ). Hahahaha! You’ve never had kebab?! I had it once and didn’t like it :’). But I was actually referring to the other stuff of which I didn’t know the English name. Google translate says it’s shawarma *shrugs* weird. But yes, the garlic sauce…http://www.forumvancouver.com/threads/semen-contamination-in-fast-food.8952/ *snickers*

omfg, I now went back to read that forum thing… jaysus… that’s not true is it? is it?
what- were they standing around a bucket of garlic mayo and wank into it or smth? blimey, or perhaps they mixed up the designated wank bucket with the mayo bucket…

:’) I sometimes wish my imagination was less developed…*gags along*. I always considered it was a thing. One of the workers of the previous kebab place here even told me he liked to wank in the garlic sauce because having a Dutch person eat it was like a form of Jihad…I can laugh about it right now (like hysterically even) but put a bucket of garlic sauce in front of me now and I might throw my own addition into it. I just had noodles for dinner, so I guess that doesn’t mix as well, though…XD
